Facilities

Macquarie was purpose built with a lot of thought placed into the extension plans for the centre. The senior backyard was designed with a natural emphasis.  The children have the opportunity to sit on large boulders around the sandpit, while creating and building either alone or with friends.  They are able to fill their buckets from our water tank, to either water the plants in the garden beds and vegetable patch or simply use the water in play, either in the sandpit or digging patch. The junior preschool have created totem poles inside our gunyah using different coloured wool.  They can be seen sitting in their cubby pretending to cook in their fire pit. Other children play on the mound slide as they climb up through the grass plants and large boulders on either side. The children have the opportunity to play indoors and outdoors while enjoying a range of activities, like craft, painting, Lego, wooden blocks, reading a book in the book corner or climbing the obstacle course outside.  All outdoor play areas are either covered by shade sails or have a veranda for shade.

The centre has a commercial kitchen that provides cooked meals for the children.  The educators are often seen cooking different cultural meals with the help of the children (see Forms/downloads for a sample menu). The children also help bake cupcakes to sell for our favourite charities.  During these experiences, the children learn about relationships and contributing to their community.
